Be afraid: Here comes the PTA - The Sunday Times 18 April 2025
An insightful look at PTAs at fee paying private schools, "quotes" and comments from Trudy

"The stereotype of a PTA person is slightly terrifying - hailed as miraculous saviours, and deplored for being bossy and cliquey." Not at all the case for the Langton Family Association (LFA), we are a friendly bunch of parents and staff, and would welcome more committee members and volunteers with open arms.

The best part about being part of the LFA committee is speaking to as many people attending events as possible, and although I may try to coax everyone to buy a raffle or golden bucket ticket, I hope I come across as more persuasive than bossy.

There are opportunities for everyone to get involved, whatever skills they have to offer, you don't even have to leave your home if you fancy baking some cakes, sewing some crafts, or managing our social platforms. If you like to get out of the house, there's no pressure to do anything other than pour a few teas and coffees, or if you like to get amongst the crowd, then selling raffle tickets is always a great help.

"PTAs attract personalities who had high-powered jobs before children and now are under-employed stay at home parents." There's no stay at home parents on the LFA committee, we all have full-time jobs, and volunteer a little bit of their time each. We all just want to help raise funds for the school, so we carve out a little bit of time in our busy schedules to help.

A little bit of time from many adds up to a lot.

"These committees are mostly female" - on the contrary, there are 3 men in the current LFA committee.
